How Social Calendar by CoSchedule Supercharged My Indie Dev Marketing

As a freelance mobile developer working on both my own apps like SoonCall (a catchup tracker app) and my personal brand markrsh, managing my marketing used to be overwhelming. I needed a simple, organised way to plan, schedule, and promote content without pulling me away from what I love — building apps.

After finding myself frustrated with the limitations Meta Business Suite, I began looking for alternative tools that would allow me to plan further in advance and post simultaneously to other platforms. After trying out a few products, I came across: Social Calendar by CoSchedule, which ticked all the boxes for me.

If you're an indie creator juggling product launches, personal updates, and side projects, here's why CoSchedule's Social Calendar has become a game-changer for me.

What is Social Calendar by CoSchedule?

Social Calendar by CoSchedule is a marketing calendar built specifically to help creators and businesses manage and automate their social media posting in one place.

It's a bit like a personal marketing assistant: you create your posts once, schedule them across all your channels, and visually organise your entire content plan. No spreadsheets, no messy lists — just a simple calendar view that lets you see what’s going out and when.

It integrates with all major platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, X, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube etc.) as well as some of the newer platforms (e.g. BlueSky and Mastodon), meaning you can manage everything without logging into 5 different platforms every time you want to post.

You can learn more about it here.

How it Works

Setting up Social Calendar was straightforward:

  1. Connect your social media accounts — I connected my LinkedIn, Instagram, and BlueSky accounts within minutes.
  2. Create projects and tasks — For SoonCall feature updates, I create a project with all my social posts, deadlines, and assets.
  3. Use reusable templates — I really like the reusable social templates. I can plan a launch sequence once and reuse it for future updates.
  4. Drag-and-drop scheduling — The visual calendar makes it easy to move posts around based on what's happening that week.
  5. Analytics — Built-in basic analytics help me see what’s performing without needing another tool.

How I Use It for SoonCall and markrsh.com

For SoonCall, I use CoSchedule Social Calendar to plan product updates, feature announcements, and growth campaigns. Every time we ship something new, I set up a sequence of posts across LinkedIn, Instagram, and BlueSky to build momentum. I can plan these weeks in advance — which frees me up to focus on the product development.

Example: For our recent Birthday Reminder Offset feature release, I created a "Birthday Reminder campaign" inside Social Calendar, with posts across both the SoonCall LinkedIn company page and my personal LinkedIn account highlighting the feature. I use the company page to advertise the launch of the feature and then my own account to offer my personal perspective on the development process

Repurposing content with the CoSchedule Social Calendar

For markrsh.com, I use it to stay consistent with my personal brand:

  • Sharing freelance tips
  • Announcing new blog posts
  • Promoting speaking events or interviews

By scheduling posts ahead of time, my brand looks active even during my busiest periods.

Why I Recommend CoSchedule's Social Calendar

Simplicity + Power. It’s powerful enough for serious marketing but simple enough that I actually enjoy using it.

Biggest wins for me:

  • Saves me time every month
  • Helps me stick to a consistent posting schedule
  • Reduces last-minute scrambling after updates are released
  • Makes it easier to grow my app's audience and my freelance business without extra stress

If you’re a solo developer, freelancer, or creator trying to grow without hiring a marketing team, I highly recommend giving it a try.
